Looff Armored Horse

This is a First Edition Tobin Fraley piece, produced in 1987.  This piece came with different base configurations.  It was offered with a brass clawfoot base and an oval oak music-box base, and also a Wurlitzer band organ backdrop music-box base.   The piece is large, about 13" to the top of the pole. The total run number for each variant was 9500, except for the Wurlitzer which was 4500.   This horse also appeared in a smaller version the same year, on a rocking-horse base, and made further appearances (in various sizes) in 1989 in the Third Edition series, though never again as this large a horse.

The real carousel horse can also be seen at Riverfront Park in Spokane, Washington.

The average price of this piece when new was $125-$200 (significantly more for the Wurlitzer variant, in the range of $450-$600).
