This is a Fifth Edition Tobin Fraley, produced in 1991. This piece came with two different base configurations,
the oak music-box shown here and a brass horseshoe base. The rest of the "Four Seasons" horses from this edition
only came with the brass horseshoe base. The piece is large, about 14" to the top of the pole. The run number for
the brass horseshoe base was 2500 total, for the music-box base shown here was 300 total.
The music-box base alternately plays "The Four Seasons" and "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring" (and it sounds incredibly good,
it's far and away better than any music-box on a carousel that I've ever heard).
I'd guess that the average
price of this piece when new was $125-$200 for the brass base, I am not sure what the music-box base would have been (being
a much more limited-edition piece).
